Structurally, the new Board members joined FOCUS Board of Trustees. All of this activity is in preparation for FOCUS' ambitious plan to enter into a partnership with a private developer allowing FOCUS to be an active participant in the redevelopment plan for the area where its headquarters is located.
The strategic plan was concluded with a Power Point Presentation where each Administrator and Manager introduced themselves to the Board and explained their participation in the process. The Board of Trustees accepted the results of the 3 year Strategic Plan and extended congratulatory comments to the staff.
We are now preparing to embark in the re-development project that should provide FOCUS with new facilities, having state of the art communication equipment and all the other requirements under the Construction Code E classification that is awarded to schools and handicapped.
The year 2007 marked the completion of FOCUS 3 Year Strategic Plan which began January 2005. A number of very important changes were made. FOCUS mission was amended; a Vision was developed to be consistent with FOCUS plans for the future. The organization continued its growth and significant accomplishments were attained.

Our organization has faced many challenges over these four decades, but to our credit, we have survived and flourished.
This has been a fruitful year! We continued to be solvent. Our revenue and expenses are balanced and we have a clean audit. Our operating budget has exceeded $4 million and our staff now exceeds over 100 employees. New programs have been developed and implemented with support from new funding sources. The proportion of general and administrative expenses is 14% of our operating budget indicating that most of the funds are used for services.
The Hispanic community of Newark continues to grow with the addition of South American, Central American, and Carribbean communities which comprise 60% of clients served; the balance is comprised of African Americans which now totals 35%.
I join our Board of Trustees, in expressing our appeciation to its dedicated administrators and staff. We offer special thanks to Casto Maldonado, CEO for his leadership and vision which have greatly contributed to the expansion of services for the community. Lastly, we are grateful to our corporate and governmental sponsors whose financial support has made it possible for FOCUS to continue the good work that we do well.
