Greetings,

Over the last 28 years FOCUS has had a successful partnership with Essex County College serving as an extension center. On October 1, 2007, that partnership set a new milestone. I am pleased to announce that we have embarked in another exciting new program named "College Yes" (C-Yes), funded by the U.S. Department of Education.

The C-Yes Program is a national initiative aimed at assisting Adult Secondary Education (ASE) Programs such as FOCUS improve the college readiness of out-of-school young adults. As one of four recipients nationwide and the only community college to be awarded the C-YES Grant, Essex County College continues to set the standard amongst community colleges. C-Yes was officially launched at ECC on January 31, 2008 in collaboration with the NJ Department of Labor and Workforce Development. Other partners include La Casa de Don Pedro, Inc. The Newark Public Schools, and Jewish Vocational Services (JVS).

I take this opportunity to thank the FOCUS Board of Trustees, staff, partner agencies and the many volunteers who work diligently in providing services to our clients.
